John Robert Scott is a Senior Staff Drilling Engineer in the Execution department at Phoenix Energy, bringing 17 years of experience in the oil and gas industry. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and began his career on the service side at Baker Hughes, where he held operations, engineering, and management roles before successfully transitioning to the operator side as a Drilling Engineer at Enerplus/Chord Energy. His expertise spans drilling optimization, well design, and problem solving—skills honed across both sides of the industry that give him a well-rounded perspective on what it takes to deliver high-performance wells.

John is drawn to the dynamic nature of drilling—the technology and challenges are always evolving, which keeps the work engaging and pushes him to keep growing. He is focused on continuing to develop both his technical depth and leadership skills, with aspirations to move into a leadership role. At Phoenix Energy, he hopes to help the execution team push the boundaries of performance and deliver capital-efficient wells.

Originally from Ciudad del Carmen, Mexico, John is a family man of four who shares a love of soccer and the snow with his kids. Outside of work, he enjoys traveling with his family, spending time in the mountains, and playing soccer.
