Keith Coffindaffer

Keith Coffindaffer is a Senior Geologist at Phoenix Operating, with over a decade of experience in the oil and gas industry. He holds a BS and MS in Geology from West Virginia University, an MBA from the University of Oklahoma, and a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Tennessee.

Prior to joining Phoenix, Keith worked at Chesapeake Energy, where he contributed to the appraisal, development, and successful execution of over 175 horizontal well projects across the Appalachian Basin, South Texas Gulf Coast, and Rockies region. He played a key role in identifying and refining the geologic prospect behind Chesapeake’s $4B acquisition of Cretaceous-aged East Texas Basin assets, which later became a fully-fledged Business Unit for the company. He also enhanced Chesapeake’s understanding of Rockies regional petroleum systems by appraising and de-risking 3 basin-scale prospects across multiple basins, helping the operations team gain efficiency in the Powder River Basin. His expertise spans petrophysical interpretation, geologic research, and petroleum systems risk analysis.

Originally from Bridgeport, WV, Keith brings a passion for uncovering new geologic prospects and enjoys being part of a dedicated team operating in the Williston Basin. Outside of work, he enjoys music, fitness, hiking, digital design, and studying foreign languages. At Phoenix Energy, he aims to apply his geologic insight, creativity, and drive to help identify future growth opportunities and support the company’s continued success.
