Dan Carlson is an Operations Accountant in the Operating department at Phoenix Energy, bringing 13 years of experience in oil and gas accounting. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and has built his career at some of the industry’s well-known operators, including Whiting Petroleum, Centennial Resources, Petro Hunt, and EAG, where he served as a Senior JIB Accountant. His expertise centers on joint interest billing and property accounting, with strong proficiency in Bolo, OpenInvoice, and Excel. A standout achievement in his career was recovering several million dollars in billable items that had been left on PADs and never billed to owners—a find that reflects his methodical, detail-driven approach to the work.

Dan is drawn to digging into a problem and working it through to resolution. At Phoenix Energy, he hopes to bring his deep industry knowledge to bear as a dependable contributor to a growing team, continuing to expand his expertise along the way.

Originally from Poway, California, Dan is married with two kids, three dogs, and two sugar gliders. An avid traveler, he and his family recently completed a 10-day cruise visiting six countries—the latest chapter in a lifelong goal of seeing as much of the world as possible. They also enjoy hitting the road in their RV whenever the opportunity arises.
