Jacob Ellwood serves as a Senior Production Engineer in the Operations department at Phoenix Energy, bringing 24 years of oil and gas industry experience to the team. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering and launched his career as a field frac engineer with Halliburton before going on to build deep operational expertise across a range of independent and startup companies, including Petrogulf, Sundance Energy, Four Point Energy, and Caliber Midstream. His background spans the full operations spectrum — drilling, completions, production, facilities, and midstream — and he has developed a particular strength working within lean, entrepreneurial organizations where adaptability and ownership matter most.
Jacob’s record of operational results speaks for itself. When he joined Sundance Energy as a drilling engineer, he helped bring the first total well cost in $3 million under the AFE projection — and trimmed another $2 million in drilling and completion costs the following year. Beyond the numbers, one of his most valued contributions has been mentoring roughly ten young engineers who have each gone on to build successful careers of their own. He’s drawn to the people and the responsibility his work carries, and he looks forward to bringing positivity, open communication, and a fresh perspective to Phoenix Energy’s continued growth.
Originally from Spring, Texas, Jacob is the proud parent of two kids and has a wonderful family spread across the country. Outside of work, he keeps busy with an impressive range of outdoor pursuits — gardening, jogging, hiking, backpacking, mountain biking, skiing, and caving — along with small DIY projects that keep his hands busy closer to home.
